Although only a few dozen users of the national e-service “Inbox.lv” received the email in the recent phishing attempt, company representatives urge users to be vigilant and to report any suspicious messages they receive.

As previously reported, on Monday, 9 November, some “Inbox.lv” users received an email purportedly sent on behalf of “Inbox.lv” requesting them to change their data via a specific link.

“Inbox.lv” Board Member Jevgenijs Kuzņecovs reiterates that “Inbox.lv” will never ask for user data or request a password change in this way by email.

“The security of our users’ data is our priority. That is why “Inbox.lv” invests more than a million euros in security improvements every year, which has made it possible to introduce top-standard security solutions that block up to 93% of junk mail every day, including fraudulent emails,” Kuzņecovs stressed.

Kuzņecovs reminded that, for the security and convenience of “Inbox.lv” users, the email service offers the option to report a suspicious email.

“I would like to emphasise that we handle each case individually and respond to such reports as quickly as possible,” Kuzņecovs stressed.

“Attempts of this kind to lure data out of users are nothing new – they are a consequence of global internet communication that a great many companies fight every day, including banks, telecommunications companies and others,” Kuzņecovs explained.

According to the expert, when receiving an email from an unknown or unclear sender, you should under no circumstances click on links or open attached files, as there is a high probability that it is a virus.

“In such situations it is better to report it to your email service provider or to your company’s IT or security department,” said Kuzņecovs.

For more than 10 years, the national e-service “Inbox.lv” has offered its users a wide range of services – from email and file-sharing services to entertainment such as games and the ability to upload and share their photos. In 2015, “Inbox.lv” was recognised as Latvia’s most loved local brand for the fifth year in a row. “Inbox.lv” is also the official representative in Latvia of the world’s most prestigious creativity festival, “Cannes Lions”.
