Last year, Latvia’s national e-service “Inbox.lv” invested more than 700 thousand euros in supporting cultural and sports events, said Andris Griķis, Member of the Board of SIA “Inbokss”.

On Wednesday, 1 April, “Inbox.lv” released its traditional April Fools’ Day joke news story, claiming that the company had prepared a proposal to the Ministry of Culture to partly cover the maintenance costs of the National Library of Latvia, provided the ministry agreed to place the portal’s logo on the building.

“That was, of course, a joke. We do not wish to place the “Inbox.lv” logo on the National Library of Latvia, because this building is a treasure we all share. However, part of the information in the story was true, because we will always be ready to support events and projects organised by the National Library of Latvia,” said Griķis.

Griķis said that with the news released on 1 April the company wanted to draw the attention of all entrepreneurs to the fact that everyone, according to their means, can support the growth of society, the state and their industry.

“Inbox.lv” supports projects related to the development of culture, education, sports and the IT industry – it provides information support to the Latvian National Opera, has supported the ice hall in Piņķi for several years, informs about “Labie darbi” (Good Deeds), etc. At the end of 2014, “Inbox.lv” established a new tradition – the “Inbox.lv” scholarship for the development of talent, which was awarded for the first time to Laura Lolita Perešivana, a student of the Riga Cathedral Choir School and a promising young vocalist.

As previously reported, on April Fools’ Day “Inbox.lv” released a joke news story saying that “Inbox.lv” planned to submit a project to the Ministry of Culture proposing to place the company’s logo on the building of the National Library of Latvia in exchange for appropriate payment.

The joke story stated that the public presentation and discussion of the sketches and the project was planned for 31 April this year at 11:00 at the building of the National Library of Latvia. Needless to say, you will not find such a date in your calendars.

For more than 10 years, Latvia’s national e-service “Inbox.lv” has been Latvia’s largest multifunctional portal, offering its users a wide range of services – from email and file sharing services to entertainment – games, the ability to upload and share their photos. For three years in a row, “Inbox.lv” has been Latvia’s most loved domestic brand.
