Attention! There is an actively spreading computer virus on the Internet!

Since last week, the spread of a virus threatening internet banking users has been observed in the Latvian internet environment, and the aim of this virus is to fraudulently obtain users’ personal information and internet banking access data, warn representatives of CERT.LV, the institution for the prevention of information technology security incidents.

If, when starting to use internet banking, you are asked to enter several codes from your code card, your payment card number, card expiry date, PIN code or any other private information that is not normally requested, CERT.LV urges you to stop using internet banking immediately and contact your bank.

So far CERT.LV specialists have received information about the virus spreading in the form of e-mails in which the sender’s address field shows an e-mail address known to the recipient, while the content invites the recipient to view a file that can be accessed by following a link given in the e-mail. This e-mail is in Latvian.

CERT.LV urges you to ignore such e-mails and particularly stresses that this virus changes very rapidly and is often not recognised by antivirus software. If the link has nevertheless been opened and you suspect that your computer has been infected, please contact CERT.LV.

CERT.LV also reminds you that your bank will never send you e-mails asking you to provide your personal data for security checks, information verification or any other purposes.
